Word Count: 23,000 words
Author's Notes: Happy H/D holidays, Penny! <33333 You make fandom such a shiny place to be, and I hope you enjoy this. ♥ This story was heavily influenced by a range of literary and media works about special agents and their recruitment/training -- particularly the Jason Bourne series; a leitmotif phrase from The Recruit is used repeatedly. This story would be significantly poorer if not for the amazing beta-work by L & M. Many thanks also to J & T for coming through at the eleventh hour and putting up with my interpretive hand-flapping.

I absolutely bloody loved this. Will be re-reading later, definitely. Satisfyingly plotty, well written and the ending is so appropriate for the characters. Good stuff, thank you for sharing.

This was amazing. I really had a great time reading it and savoring the story. I loved how you described the whole training process Harry went through,it is so detail oriented it made me happy.
I absolutetly loved the description of Harry's new life but I am particularly in love with the ending. I am a big sap for good a story and a good ending and you gave me both.
I think I may have found my new favorite story.

Thanks a million for sharing.

I didn't expect to enjoy this - it seemed as if it would be a bit darker than I usually like - but I got more and more engrossed as it progressed, and the ending was PERFECT.

Superb-no other word for it. I was sucked in, and stayed in, and now I want to go back. My stars for you are not 'dark'. They are gold and they are many! Thanks so much!

Oh my god - I cried. I've only ever cried for one other story, and this one just carved, sharp and hard and brutal. The details were breathlessly exquisite; the loss of self utterly devastating; the desperation for something to make it all worthwhile was enough to still my heart.

This is one of the most exquisite things I have ever read. I will be reccing this.

This is excellent - I don't think I've read anything like it in fandom before. Extremely well-written, and your characterization of both Harry and Draco was complex and deeply satisfying.

oh my goodness, i loved every word of this. ♥ the descriptions and complexities of how harry had to be stripped from his past were brilliant but my favourite part was definitely how draco is his only connection to the past in the end. killed the romantic in me, loved it!

That was intense! I love the sleeper agent universe you created, with its bleak settings and hollowed out characters. It was hard to imagine Harry letting go of his past, and I was so pleased that in the end he fought for at least of piece of it. I was ecstatic when I realized that Draco had as well. Great story :)

This story was epic. I was completely captured by the world here, the way Harry saw things and reacted to them.
The dark parts were especially gruesome, but then you got to the parts with Draco and things seemed to just relax and tense all at once (waiting, happy). I felt sorry for Luna, really, because she was such a hopeful creature. Perfect for the job, of course, but it was still sad to see that most of her happiness had detached.
I really liked that they both choose to leave the bond. That was a beautiful twist.
Wonderful job, here. I loved it!

This is brilliant. It's extraordinarily well written (obvs--I mean, come on, how can you write like that and NOT know that?), touching, brutal, fucked up, beautiful, and so smart. I loved it to a ridiculous, ridiculous degree and am so insanely jealous of your writing ability that I have gone past jealousy into a sad sort of reverence generally reserved for celibate members of clergy. But, you know, in a good way. =) I will be reccing this, definitely, and re-reading for sure. Amazing, amazing job!

Ahh, this ate my soul with its bleakness and starkness and cold, but I loved it it so much! I suspected the end bit, with the line (trying not to be spoilery!) and I'm so glad you did that! :) This is beautiful and so well-written, congratulations!

Fic: Darkstar
*snickers* Clever Aishe! :D Draco's also a remarkable actor, considering that Harry's been trained to observe people especially carefully. Even I was convinced that he'd had the spell removed. ^^;

Gosh, I kind of wish I knew whether or not that was really Kingsley in Harry's final test! I suppose the point is in the not knowing however. *sighs*

I loved that Harry named the spiders. XD It was kind of cute.

Re: Fic: Darkstar
Thank you so much for reading! ♥ I'm really happy this story worked for you. :)

I think Harry was fooled by Draco not only because Draco's a good actor, but because Harry had feelings for him, and those get in the way of objectivity. But of course we won't tell Harry that. ^_^

It's not really that the point is in not knowing whether or not it was really Kingsley -- there was just no way for Harry to find that out without breaking point-of-view, because certainly no one was about to tell him what had really happened. The real Kingsley Shacklebolt is still alive and well at the end of this story. :)

This is WONDERFUL! I LOVE everything about Harry in Darkstar, and I love how throughout the whole thing, he still manages to retain what makes him Harry. Not Harry Potter, just Harry. The fact that he loves. I love how you've mixed canon Harry and what we know of him, with this Harry, who is so so in-character. I was so intrigued and I just read on and on and wanted it to never end. Wonderful. I just have no other words for this type of sheer enjoyment. TheMostPotente is a lucky, lucky recipient!!!!!!

The plot is pure genius. I love it. Seeing Harry training under ICON is pure action and his affair with Draco is heartbreaking. I just hate it that Harry had Ginny before he gained a new life (sorry, I always have a tendency to really hate Ginny with Harry). But the ending was worth it, a big thanks to Aishe for her grandmother affections and effort.

I cannot believe this masterpiece at all. It reads like a book that took years and years of research and soul-searching and ridiculous amounts of imagination that I just cannot believe it was written for the hols and not a mega-classic that's been in progress since '05.

Everything you wrote about, the Dark Arts, morality, Kingsley, love lines, training, Darkstar, New Zealand, the weapons, Jan- they're all so complex that I would expect complete stories having to be committed to each topic. I'm amazed that you've fit SO much original plot- amazingly creative and fresh plot- into one single story when it feels like it could made into a series.

I didn't even sleep at all and I was working the crazy shift all yesterday, so my mind is a bit befuddled but I really honestly hope that you continue with this once the hols are over and you can release your name. I'm just completely blown away!

And there are so many things I loved about this that I could in no way list them all, but one I wanted to point was how vivid and surreal Harry's dreams were. I can't for life of me figure out how, but they explained so much about Harry and his core self without making any sense on it's own. My heart breaks for Ginny and Harry, and I love when an author uses her to her full potential like this, because I honestly can understand why JK set them up- she's an amazing character and while Draco will always be my favourite personality, what she stands for is definitely respectable in my book.

Ahh, I really need to sleep now before I ramble on forever. Thank you thank you thank you for writing this <3

That was...odd, so removed from the Harry Potter World that it felt like original fic with Harry and Draco like characters, but I suppose that was the point since the Darkstar world is so removed from Harry Potter's world, and Harry and Draco change to belong to it, although I'm very glad that Harry still still wanted some tie to his old self - his ability to love, having someone to love. I think that's quintessentially Harry <3 I was surprised that Draco also chose to retain that love, but my H/D heart was as glad to read it as I was about Harry. It was interesting and absorbing to read.
