Author's Notes: Mahaliem, I’m sorry this didn’t follow any of your prompts. Though they were awesome, I got carried away with another idea. I hope you like it anyway.
2. I got the idea for this from another fic I wrote several years ago. I think the fics are different, but if anyone has read the other, you may see that that one inspired this one.
3. Thanks so so so much to K for the beta, and the lovely mods for their patience.

You have NO idea how much I love this story! I almost posted earlier at accio_hd to ask whether there were any stories where Harry or Draco were Unspeakables, and then this story was posted! It's - karma, or serendipity or something!

What a wonderful, intriguing story! I couldn't stop reading, even though it's 3 am and I'm really supposed to be working. Or sleeping. But this! This was so good, and so involving, and layered, and of course we could tell that Rabbit was Draco, but Harry couldn't, he wouldn't have expected it at ALL, and oh, God, when he told Rabbit, toward the end, that Draco didn't mean anything to him, my heart just went into my throat. And stayed there! But then you made it all better. Whew.

And the sex! So intimate and real and so much more than mere sex, even if Harry didn't want to admit that to himself. Hnnngg.

I could read this one again and again. And probably will.

♥ ♥ ♥

I love Unspeakables! They're not really explained in the books, so I really like seeing different explanations of what it is, exactly, they do.

The hardest part about writing this fic was making sure the reader knew what Harry didn't. I'm glad the worked for you--though sorry it prevented you from work!

Thanks so much for your lovely comment!

I love this fic so much! I just couldn't stop reading it. The whole thought of secret agents is absolutely awesome, and your delivery of it was perfect. I loved the wizarding versions of Muggle devices!

My heart broke when Harry told Rabbit that Draco meant nothing to him :( but you made it all better, so I'll forgive you.

The sex between Harry and Draco was so...real. And hot. The made up story when they're waiting for the Russians to finish was brilliant! The tea routines were fab; I love the boys fixating on tea! So so many more little bits I could say, but I'd be here forever.

I just could (and will) reread this story over and over again. Fab job.

Thank you again, so so much for the beta. You really helped me out--even though I ended up messing up the Dictus charm incantations again. I really did go through and fix it, but ended up changing things and it got messed up again. I'll have to fix it before reposting it anywhere.

I'm so glad the magic versions of spy gadgetry worked for you! I really wanted to do more of them, it was so fun, but do you really need an exploding pen when you have a wand? *contemplates*

Thank you so much for your help, your willingness to do so sort of at the eleventh hour, and for all your lovely comments. You rock my socks.

My brain is goo now. It's late and I'm so, so tired but I just had to tell you how lovely this was before I passed out. Also, every time Harry almost had his 'Aha!' moment, I was right there with him, on the edge of my seat, thinking, 'Yes, yes, for the love of all that is holy, this is it!' and then he'd remember that he'd told the same to Malfoy and I'd just deflate completely. Well done, you, for planning it out right. It was so hurty in all the right places because even though I knew Rabbit was Malfoy and Malfoy was Rabbit, I was rooting for Malfoy, damn it. The Patronus changing was just... god, it made my whole body ache because Malfoy wasn't winning, wasn't going to win, and there was nothing for it. And it was good news but it wasn't and it made me want to break stuff because I knew - in that moment - that it was going to be Rabbit until Harry knew it wasn't Rabbit and I hated to love that so much.

"It was actually more upsetting that Harry didn’t know whether Malfoy liked tea or not than it was worrying that he might not actually escape." -- I love that this is his priority (as it should be!) and I love that Harry realizes, before he makes the connection, that he should have taken Malfoy out and given him a chance and tried to really love him.

I really wish Harry would have been punished more for this: “I don't care.” Harry came closer. “About him.” because fuck if I didn't want to castrate him for it. But it wouldn't have made sense, would it? *sigh* Malfoy made it very clear that he was willing to be used so long as he had some semblance of Harry. I still wish he had walked away, if only for a month or so but as a very smart witch once said, "Love makes you do the wacky." And, yes, I am just smashing fandoms together now because it's late and I believe I can get away with those kind of things at the moment.

This ended up semi-coherent, I am proud of me. Though that accomplishment kind of pales in comparison to the brilliance that was this. So I think I'll save my pats on the back for you rather than myself. *pats your face* Continue to write always if you can produce things even half this magnificent, mystery author!

Thank you so much!

it was going to be Rabbit until Harry knew it wasn't Rabbit

I think Harry is very stubbornly loyal, and I wanted to examine someone who was loyal in that way with their heart, but not their body. I think for some people that can work okay, but for Harry it really doesn't. It really would have been a terrible thing for him if Rabbit had not been Draco; he pretty much would've been torn in two!

before he makes the connection, that he should have taken Malfoy out and given him a chance

This story was supposed to be about prejudices--many different kinds of them, but two of them were a relatively simple prejudice about appearance, vs a far more complex prejudice about previous conceptions. I wanted Harry realizing that Rabbit was Malfoy to be a part of getting over the latter, but for Harry to begin to see glimmers of it before all is revealed. I'm glad that came through.

I still wish he had walked away, if only for a month or so but as a very smart witch once said, "Love makes you do the wacky." And, yes, I am just smashing fandoms together now

Malfoy only managed to walk away for three weeks, alas. But I love BtVS, so smash fandoms any time you like, my dear, and Willow often has wise things to say. :o)

Thanks so much for this wonderful comment. It made me happy that you liked it, though I'm sorry that your brain got goo'ed.

Oh My God, WOW, I don't have an adjective for the brilliance of this fic.

Have read twice so far. The first time I was taking everything all in: Harry was a right little fucker at places; yet I can't bring myself to hate him, for the emotional journey he went through.
The second time I cried like a baby; my tears wouldn't stop falling down. It broke my heart: this Draco, and their sex scenes, I haven't read sex as well-written in years. No fancy words, but plain rawness - makes you feeling so wretched and happy at the same time. His love for Harry really shone through from the way he gave himself to Harry so completely and so freely. There was nothing dirty (except perhaps for the sex they were having) or awkward about it. It's rare to read sex scenes in which the physical side blends so perfectly with emotions.

A real gem! Mystery write, a huge huge well-done. And please keep writing. :-)

Wow, I can't believe you read this big long fic twice! I'm glad you liked it, though I'm sad I made you cry :o( And I'm glad you liked the sex scenes. I love dialogue in sex scenes; in fact, I probably like dialogue in sex scenes far more than the descriptions of the sex, so sometimes I think that my sex scenes are kind of mechanical with too much talking thrown in. Anyway, I worry about them so I'm so pleased to hear you liked them! Thanks so much for your kind words!

This was an incredible read. You've completely sold me on Harry as an Unspeakable. The reasons he loves the work, the thrill and use of Blackbird as a mask, were very believable. I loved watching Harry get to know Rabbit, Malfoy's attempts at seduction and the sex, which was both hot and had a lot of emotional depth. The sheer want Malfoy displayed for Harry was heartbreaking at times because you knew Harry hadn't connected the two dots yet and was still strongly emotionally drawn to Rabbit instead. Especially when he told Rabbit he didn't care at all about Malfoy and it was only sex.

You did take me through an emotional rollercoaster with this fic but you patched it all up in the end. I was glad that there was a happily ever after for the two of them. :)

I'm glad Harry loving his work worked for you. I would think he would very much like to be anonymous, sometimes.

I think Harry definitely lied about not caring about Malfoy, but it was a douchey thing he said! I'm really glad the resolution worked out for you. Thank you so much!

Love love love the plotline and the angst. Really didn't want the story to end even though it is a 10K+. All these time I just wanted to slap Harry in the face and scream at him for being such an idiot. I am so glad it all worked out though. Harry and Draco just makes the best cat and mouse... or in this case, bird and bunny.

Not sure if I am correct about the mystery writer, but I was reading 1/4 way though and thought to myself, hum, the writing style and theme sounded really familiar. Perhaps it's just like another fic (one of my favourite that I read once every few weeks and never get tired of) that I have just reread again in the half an hour ago. Let's go and read the author's notes! Oh look, is that not another hint. :)

I was afraid Harry would be way too frustrating for readers, so I'm glad this worked for you in the end.

I'd be interested to know what other fic you were thinking of, because if it's not by me, I'd love to read it! The fic I referred to is something I wrote in Batman fandom, called Go Your Own Way.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment.

I'm still reading, but .... I wanted to say that so far this is one of the best things I have EVER read. I'm usually a skim-reader, and I'm reading this with care and slowness, and... at first I didn't want to read it, because stories with Draco or Harry not recognizing the other tend to turn me off, but it sucked me in, it was just that good. The scene with Harry and Ginny ("I know who I am") made me want to cry. I don't want it to end! I'm at the part where Rabbit recognizes Harry, and am just dying from squee.

This story is amazing. I loved the way Draco tried to give Harry everything he couldn't give him as Rabbit and even if Harry was sometimes so dense I wanted to punch him, his journey was wonderful too. And since I love Person of Interest, I was picturing Rabbit and Blackbird as Finch and Reese, so my joy was bigger ^^

[info]lettered

January 15 2012, 06:06:21 UTC 4 months ago

I was really afraid Harry might be too dense; it was a bit of a problem making sure the reader knew without making Harry look stupid. I don't know Person of Interest, but I'm tickled that the story was evocative--maybe I'll give it a go! Thanks so much!

I just really have nothing to say, but I feel compelled to give you a once-in-a-blue-moon review.

This has got to be the best thing I have read in a long, long time. Months, if not years, at the very least. This piece of writing is absolutely brilliant- I just. Well. Speechless. And I just sort of sat there, reading this with my face drawn out and pale, tears streaking down my face. You are someone I could marry. Happily.

Thank you so much for writing this, and for the love of Jesus, either just marry me, or keep writing.

Have a wonderful Christimas!

(This comment does have a lot of spoilers, so, if you are still going to read the fic, I advise you not to read it yet.)

----SPOILER ALERT-----

So, yes, I am back. Because I just had to at least make it clear that I did mean what I said - this story has been hunting me for the last couple of days and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. So I am here to lay down my compliments and maybe ramble a little more, because I doubt I will be able to make a much more coherent comment, anyway. But let me try.

The first amazing thing about this story is, of course, the writing: beautiful, delicate at some points, and then so thrilling and able to take the reader's breath away during the action scenes. And the sex scenes are SO hot - I just love how you play the physical aspects entangled with the psychology of the relationship - you build up the tension between them and then just make us melt with the next scene where things actually happen. Bruno and Marieta impersonation, and then the meeting between Draco and Harry were maybe one of the most beautiful and sexy scenes I've ever read.

And then I think that that's one of the things that got me really hooked here: how can you do everything so well? Their characterizations are perfect, the way we get to know them, learn what time has meant to them, understand their expectations, frustration and motives. The plot - what is happening, it is really well done, I love the scenes of Harry seducing the suspects, I actually really enjoyed your side chars, they give more consistency to the story. Then, their relationships, how you so carefully built the admiration, first, and then the way Harry fell in love with Rabbit, and I must say that there were moments that you managed to make me wonder if it wasn't someone else. And the most amazing part is that, of course I really really wanted him to be Draco, but it if it wasn't - I had also already fell in love with him as well, and it didn't matter.

And in the other hand, it felt amazing the way that Harry fell in love with Draco and just wouldn't admit it because - he had to be faithful to Rabbit. When I first finished reading this fic for the first time (I've read it at least three times now), I felt bad for Draco. But then I realized that actually it was his decision - and Rabbit *was* him, so he knew Harry really loved him. He decided he wanted to Harry to realize it, but he knew it, and that was messed up and I just loved it.

I think that one of my favourite scenes is the one where Rabbit drives Blackbird to the broom shop and Harry runs away flying and then Rabbit is amazed... "I’d forgotten."

Oh my. I just went back to re-read this scene and I could actually feel the way he was feeling... like watching someone you really love doing something so amazing... *sighs* Oh my. You said the length of the fic was a warning and I just wanted it to keep going and going and going. I wish I was there to watch their first conversation after Harry found out - the first time they ever talked about it. But then again, your timing is just perfect and I love that you decided to actually give us another glimpse of their evolving relationships, talking about how they felt now that they knew for a while.

I guess I should stop here. I am looking forward to find out who you are, so I can go and ready everything you have written. Thank you again for writing this.

OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING. Seriously, amazing writing. You've characterized Harry and Draco brilliantly; they perfectly reflect their "canon" counterparts, but are so much more at the same time. ***** also being ****** was basically a given from the start simply because this is a H/D story after all but the way you transitioned between the two ~timelines~ was clever, felt realistic, and was thoroughly enjoyable. Absolutely smashing fic - sexy, plotty, emotional, fun, evocative, and just plain good - a clear highlight of the Holidays ♥.

[info]lettered

January 15 2012, 06:23:34 UTC 4 months ago

Thanks! I wasn't sure Draco being Rabbit would be obvious, despite being an H/D fest. I definitely tried to include that in my calculations regarding how much I needed to give the readers for them to figure it out right away, but you can never be sure!

I'm glad the transitions between timelines worked for you. I tend to get lost as a reader when timelines jump, so I always try to make it very, very clear, and sometimes I fear I'm a bit like a sledgehammer about it. Thanks for your excellent feedback; I'm really glad you liked this.

Thank you ever so much for such a completely delightful story. I loved the originality. Harry as an Unspeakable (and his reasons for becoming one) was marvelously done.

You wrote Draco perfectly. I adore that you illustrated how he's wired oh so differently from Harry, but he's also smart, quick, and relentless and you made him so heartbreakingly human and deeply vulnerable. (Also - you had him do impersonations! Oh, and the spell he uses to make his hair look thicker! Wonderful!)

Can I say that I'm a real sucker for polyjuice and not knowing real identities and such? Love, love, love the fact that you convincingly had Harry fall for both Rabbit and, eventually, Draco.

The sex scenes were amazing. You wrote them incredibly well.

The plot (Yay!) was great and involving and the OCs were fabulous.

I must say that what I especially liked was how you kept us firmly in the Harry Potter universe and how realistically Harry and Draco were written. Their friends were around, they talked about their shared history, there were mentions of Remus, Teddy, Diggory, all of which made the story seem so rich and full.

I wish I was better at commenting so that I could more fully expound on how much I truly enjoyed this story. Thank you so very, very much for this fantastic gift.

Hello, m'dear. I'm really glad you liked this, even though I didn't use your prompts. I saw somewhere that you enjoyed some unusual careers now and then, and hoped this would suit. I do love me some crack sometimes, but usually I feel like there's hardly a point to writing fanfic unless there are the things we know and love from canon there that show us these same people can grow into some many different things, or remain the same through a thousand different situations. I'm glad that you liked the plot, too--I feel that I am pants at writing plot, but some things require it, so I'm really happy to hear this one was viable.

Although I don't think we have previously interacted, I have seen you about fandom. I know that you have not had an easy time of it recently, and wanted to say how lovely you are for leaving this comment, with all that is going on. I hope you don't mind if I friend you, and offer you all my virtual hugs.
