This story made my heart ache for both of them! I love the way what went wrong before wasn't spelled out explicitly, but was woven in among the story of James' trial. I loved the bit where Draco says he wasn't doing this for James, and Harry replies that he knows who he was doing it for. Then when Harry apologizes for the past and offers Draco his heart forever...and Draco replies that he's been Harry's for a long time now. Just...*sigh*. Although I do hope that Harry is able to repair his relationship with Albus Severus, I am so happy that he decided to do something for himself, and to hell with what the rest of the world and the press thinks!

Oooh, thank you so much, first commenter! ^__^ And what a great first comment it is. I'm so happy the story managed to hit so many good spots for you. I hold out hope for Harry and Albus' ability to work things out, and I agree: it's high time Harry did some "Me Things". He's given so much to everyone else.

Thank you again!

What a gorgeous story! It broke my heart to see Al so angry at Harry. And poor Harry, so sad without Draco. Loved the fic.
rurounihime: Duncan/Fitzrurounihime on January 17th, 2013 12:12 am (UTC)
It was kind of strange, when the Albus-fight angle came up. I've never written THEM at odds with each other. Refreshing in a way, but also (yes) sad. Thank you so much for this comment! ♥

Oh my, that was wonderful. I loved – loved!– the ache, for the past, for what had been lost, combined with a father's love. And Albus, ah, how sad, but real. Both Harry and Draco were so grown-up, I did like that too. This was a real treat to read. :)

Thank you very much for what you've said here. I'm so happy you liked the story, especially the older-H-and-D aspect. It was really great getting to know this version of the guys. ^_^

I loved the subtlety about it. The meaningful looks and the attention to details said so much about their past way before it was stated.

I loved the depth of it. I did feel like you were telling two stories at once; the one that happened all those years ago and the one happening at the present.

I loved how sexy you made them, adults and grown up. Maturity is so sexy, and boy, you showed it plenty on this fic. I loved it.

And my romantic heart thanks you so much for that ending! I wonder if you asked yourself it it'd be too much. Well, if you did, it wasn't. It was the perfect way to leave us with a smile for the rest of the day.

Wonderful story, mystery author. :)

Thank you very much! I'm relieved it conveyed so much.

And this. Love how you put this. You're exactly right.

I wonder if you asked yourself it it'd be too much.

In several senses, maybe. In the end, I didn't want to tie everything up, just give a little bow to the main aspect of Harry's life at this point. The rest could come later, but Harry needed Draco, and Draco needed him, and I really wanted to give them each other at least.

Thank you very much for such a great review! *hugs*

That was lovely and warm, and also very interesting. The progression of the court case--Draco's arguments--felt very believable and satisfying. So clever. And I very much enjoyed the lovely melancholy longing between Harry and Draco, especially as it had such a Wonderful and effecting conclusion.

I'm so excited you thought so! Ha, that was the main omg spot for me... I don't know law and I only have a hobby-like interest in the subject in terms of entertainment (movies, TV, that kind of thing). It's wonderful to hear that it was gripping.

Thanks for reading and for such a great review!

This was so achingly good. My heart was in my throat for most of it, but the ending was absolutely perfect. I love how you slowly revealed hints of six years before and the choices and mistakes Harry had made. I'm so glad that he learned from them. Perhaps, someday, Albus will come around. He seemed more lost and troubled than even Harry.
Beautifully written story.

Thank you so much. I love that you enjoyed the ending, specifically. I wanted to give them some closure, and also an opening for something new. Harry couldn't not learn, in my mind. Poor thing. Took enough hits to do it...

Perhaps, someday, Albus will come around. He seemed more lost and troubled than even Harry.

Yes, I think you are right about him being even more lost. I have high hopes for them, though. I think between the two of them, they can work this out. ^_^

This was so heartbreaking-ly beautiful and haunting. Every word ripped a piece of me until I'm hanging on this rope where I'm slowly slipping and the next thing you know, I'm free-falling into a pool of feelings I can't even fathom anymore. My heart ached just as much as it did from the very beginning and even more so at the history underlying the story and then, even more at the unresolved open-ended-ness of it. And I can literally wax poetic about how amazing this story is, but I'm afraid I'll run out of words and descriptions to depict how this story got under my skin and crawled into my heart.

Wonderful, wonderful job, mystery author. And thank you. Thank you so much for sharing a piece of you into this great fandom.

Thanks again for this comment!

Thoroughly enjoyable read. The tension was deliciously palpable and I loved the AFewGoodMen-esque court room mixed with the family & relationship stories. :)

HA. A Few Good Men is a favorite movie of mine. That courtroom scene with Tom Cruise vs. Jack Nicholson... *happy sigh* I think I could watch that forever, and I admit to being inspired by it for this story. Thank you so much for this comment, darling!

Oh wow, I loved this! The court case was so perfectly paced, escalating in believable ways, and -- can I just say, thank you for making the actual charge somewhat... well, not insignificant, certainly, but not overly melodramatic, either, like James accidentally killed a busful of kids or something. IDK, it could have gone really over the top, but I thought the actual events and the charge were really nicely done, and everyone's anxiety about it was really fitting. Loved all the supporting characters, too, especially the secne with Albus. And I really like how you kept exposition to a minimum; I thought that worked really well. I still have a couple of questions about how things went down 6 years ago, but really, it doesn't matter! You captured the heart of the story, of their relationship and all its bumps in the road, so well that I don't need more details.

And the UST between H/D was ;lkasjdf;lksajd;flkjsa;f. My very favourite setting is just like this for them, when they are older and their kids are grown, and I loved how you wrote these middle-aged men at the height of their careers, smart and professional but still so human. I think I clawed at the screen and whimpered when Draco finally kissed Harry. :))) And the sex was beautifully written, so passionate and capturing everything they needed to say to each other.

/ramble. :) Loved it! ♥

I have a thing for good courtroom scenes, and I find I like the subtle ways in which the lawyers play each other, and how creative they have to get in order to get by the other's attacks. I'm so glad you liked the scene! And yeah, I don't think over the top would have done any service to the fic, honestly. I wanted something that anyone could have done: an honest mistake or accident that had icky consequences.

I do have a backstory about six years ago for these guys, but I think most of it managed to find its way in here in some way, you know? I kind of like the idea of not knowing myself, of coming into a story already in progress, so it's fun to write that way when I can.

A lovely story! I like that we don't get the whole story of what happened 6 years ago but only small glimpses. The court-scenes were interesting and not too much and the scenes with Draco and Harry just perfect.
And such a beautiful and heart-warming ending! Love this.

This was beautiful and heartwrenching and.. gah. I love angst, and this had just the right amount. So much was going on behind the scenes, you KNEW there was more to it, but it felt complete in and of itself. Lovely. <3

[spoileryish comment, so I hope this tag works]

I like the court and office details in this; they were so well fleshed-out. I found myself wishing I could watch this on some legal drama on TV. I can never get over lawyer!Draco, and you wrote him just the way I like him: brilliant, and laying traps for those on the stand. I was hanging onto tenterhooks for that bit about James' evaluation. I also love the conflict between Harry and Al; it's rarely seen, and I felt Al's unhappiness, anger and even his love for Harry.

Harry’s eyes found Draco again, still knelt by Albus’ chair, now listening intently. I think it's supposed to be James here instead of Albus?

I have to admit, I find I rather like lawyer!Draco myself. >.> I'm so happy the courtroom scene worked well for you! I love a good courtroom scene, and you've made my day. ^_^

Yes, I don't think I've ever seen it before in any fic I've read. I've certainly never written it before. It was an interesting angle to explore.

I think it's supposed to be James here instead of Albus?

ARG, yes! Thank you. Changing it in my own copy now.

Thank you very much for this great review! ♥

I adored this story. It is very well done. The plot works and the UST is exquisite, the stuff with Draco being so very good at what he does and the fact that both Ginny and Harry know it. The second-hand pain of James and his ultimate relief that communicated only to the reader through Harry is done very, very well. Ah, poor Albus! He does need to grow up. It hurts to be young. But parents are people too and it really isn't all about him. I love the love scene. Heartbreakingly beautiful because we still do not know if they are going to really try again or not. The end is lovely. Satisfying and filled with hope, but never certainty. You leave the reader believing it will work, but still knowing it doesn't always. A realistic happy ending. I loved it beginning to end.

YES. Exactly. I wanted Harry to remember this and finally do something for himself, you know? Because yes, he's a parent, yes, he has responsibilities to other people, but he also definitely has responsibilities to himself and he needs to be able to look to them.

Heartbreakingly beautiful because we still do not know if they are going to really try again or not.

I like how you read this. Personally I feel they are going to make a go of it, and be successful, but I love that it can be read ambiguously because it IS sort of unfinished. Mostly I adore that you think it's realistic. Thank you so much for this wonderful review!
