Author's Notes: Happy HD Holidays, mayfly_78. I was really drawn to your prompt about peacocks, because I like peacocks (at a distance, though; one chased me down, once. I was in his territory, but still). At the same time, I liked the fairy-tale prompt. I spent a lot of time too many different ideas before I bounced a single line at a friend and the first impression of this story finally lurched into existence via our conversation (mostly her). I'll probably share that conversation, and the other ideas that were like great-aunts to this, after the reveals. In any case, there are fairy-tales and peacocks, or rather, the semblance of both. I really enjoyed working on this for you and I hope you like it. Cheers to the mods for their hard work. All my gratitude to my beta, M, especially for helping to streamline the final scenes. Any mistakes remaining in this are my own, and please feel free to point them out. Thanks to A for that conversation that turned one tentative idea into this entire fic, and thanks to the ever-patient H for humouring me one day when I was trying to find a word that meant guardian and finally gave me a one that's probably used more in World of Warcraft these days, so my apologies to WoW players in advance; however, when I was looking up the definitions for the word, both WoW-related and otherwise, most of the attributes I wanted applied so well.

This is probably the longest AN I've ever written.

Oh wow! This is so amazing! I adore this fic for all its complexity, and yet the subtely with which youve presented everything. I am so impressed!!!! The descriptions of the Paladin were beautiful and breathtaking. It was very romantic when they finally admitted their attraction, and wow the sex was gorgeous! Just, gorgeous. The characterization of Harry was so brilliant, and it really worked for me. You made me believe why this Harry was possible, and the Beast is just so heartbreaking. The idea of that is so deep and intense, something which I truly appreciate you having written and explored, and tackled with such softness and beauty and just... wow. Like I said, I am so impressed by your execution.

I could go on muuuuch longer but let me just end and say that this was an amazing fic that I blew me away. I loved it!

my first impression after reading the title is, good man, it's gonna be crack/humor *intrigued*

and after the first paragraph is, what is this exactly? *read summary & a/n* ah...*still not quite get it*

and after many paragraphs later [after i get it, it just like read and read and gobbled up all the bril and cant stop until i finished] it came to the end and i wept a bit. bcos seriously, like tigersilver said. this one is a WINNAR!!
the name of Peacock Paladin and King of Emerald Court is very amusing, i think. and all the vivid imagery and the concept, nuance, and the emotion you built is very inception like, i like it very much. always adore this kind of fic. the end aboutthe beast that was the very materialization of harry's pain, guilt, bitterself, and all the thing that was painful tugged at my heart string. brava author, ♥ ♥ ♥

RE: Your comment to "The Peacock Paladin and the King of the Emerald Court"
I was giggling so hard at your comment, the first two sentences. Isn't it amusing though? I couldn't think of another title so I was like, "Well, there's a peacock paladin, there's a king of the emerald court, boom, title."

Oh yeah! Inception reference! *pumps fist* Thank you so much!

*sniffle* This is just so overwhelmingly perfect! *hugs my mystery author tight*

I love this fic to bits! I was hooked right from the beginning. How did you manage to hit all my spots just right? From the half fairytale half fantasy fiction feel of the dream-world, (I do love myself some fantasy fiction!) to all the little details of the waking world: Harry and Ron as Aurors, Draco's backstory, Narcissa's little cameo, Weasley family sunday dinners.

My heart went out to poor grumpy Harry being in constant pain (it made me think of House MD!) and to Draco turning his life around. And Draco as a Veela! (Sorry I'm jumping every which way, but I'm just so excited!) I adore Veela!Draco! And I love love loved the way you tied that with the peacock theme! Draco as a peacock showing off to Harry is such a squeefully perfect image! And his outfits! I love it when Draco dresses in bright shiny finery, I do love some dandy!Draco!

And all the imagery and allegory and the way the dream-world story unfolded was just wonderful and perfect and all I could dream of. I love tales I can "see" as I read them, and I could "see" this one vividly clear! I have a very precise image in my head of the King of the Emerald Court, the Peacock Paladin and the Beast of Shadows, as I have of the whole dreamscape they inhabit. And there is nothing I want more at the moment than to find some time to draw some art for this! It has been a while since a fic moved me towards wanting to draw art so badly, thank you!

*squishes my most wonderfully mystery author some more!*

Oh, that was wonderful! I really like how you put this together, and how we meet the Paladin before we know who he is. There were so many great moments - like Draco realising why it was a peacock, or the interactions between Ron and Harry. And I loved the end with the Beast. In fact, each incarnation of the Beast was wonderfully revealing. The whole fic was poetic and beautiful, and left me with a little tear in my eye.Great stuff. :)

Flailing. Wordless. Love the moment when Harry says they are both impossible. Love the flow back and forth between the world inside his mind and reality. Love the reality of chasing demons down for both of them in so many ways. This is just... imaginative and wonderful. A beautiful story.

What a unique concept and a beautiful way of showing Harry fighting his demons. I have so say, the way you described his headache was so vivid it made my own head hurt a bit, and then feel much better when Harry ultimately defeated the beast.

Your descriptive writing in the fantasy sequences was gorgeous, so lush, and I could picture everything clearly in my mind. And I loved the 'real life' banter between Harry and Draco in Harry's office. Also: ""Your chair's been waiting for you at the table, mate. No one sits there, not even Tedders. That's your space." ♥

Thank you so much for this absolutely beautiful story. I'd actually forgotten how much I loved fantasy until now. The way you painted Harry's dream scape was utterly magical and filled with so much rich description that I felt like I was there. And the entire concept of tackling one's demons through dreams is brilliant. Not to mention how fluid the romance is. Just, amazing work author! It was breathtaking.

Oh, this is brilliant. *__* One of those times I have to sit back in awe of the creativity (and talent) in this fandom!

Such rich, vivid writing, especially in the fantasy sequences. Such lovely subtlety. I've always sort of wanted Draco's patronus to be a peacock, so I really love what you've done connecting him to a peacock here - plus all the descriptions of his Paladin self are beautiful. I love the beast, as well, and what it stands for, and essentially everything about this fic. Thank you for such an original read!

This was really good! I loved your Harry, all suspicious Auror as he was, and I loved Draco helping Teddy with his full moon problems. But overall I think my favourite thing was Ron. I just love all his interactions with Harry, and I love that it's him who told Harry to go see Draco. I have to admit I had more difficulty getting into the king/paladin world, but it did grow on me and got me very invested in the end!

Great work! ♥ ♥

Wow! (Pun not intended since I don't really play and know very little about it). This was absolutely beautiful. Your descriptions really allowed for the reader to picture the scenes and the clothing and the weaponry. And the blending between the imaginary world and the real world was really quite ever. I liked how it was Ron who incouraged Harry to give Draco a chance. I like to read fics in which he has matured. I liked how it was implied that Harry was Draco's mate (or some equivalent there of). I would really like to see more of that develop. Also I felt that the Beast of Shadows was a juxtaposition to that quivering and shriveled Tom Riddle that was present at Kings Cross in the final book. Only that in Harry's case it was not his humanity but his fears and his insecurities and all those other bad feeling that Voldemort represented that Harry was trying to get away from. And he as smart enough to figure it out! Again I wish there was more of this. Maybe a Weasley dinner, some more Veela discussions and Narcissa. But I really enjoyed reading this and you did an amazing job. Also I am a bit uncertain as to which fairytale you got as part of your prompt.

RE: Your comment to "The Peacock Paladin and the King of the Emerald Court"
LOL. I only know of WoW through looking at images, so I can relate!

Thank you so much! Your comment is so insightful, quite a lot of things in there I was going for. Oh! In terms of fairytale, I really wanted to go for the feel, but it probably didn't work out too good. I know I was influenced by Eastern mythology and fables, particularly a couple of Tamil folktales. Just the lushness of the descriptions in those fables/folk-tales/fairy-tales, and this epic scale of their magic is what what I tried to bring out.

That was so amazing! What an imaginative concept. I loved the descriptions, Harry's pain was so vivid, I could almost feel it, and the mind scenarios were gorgeous, just gorgeous. I loved that it went back and forth from one world to the other. Loved this story. Thank you!

I love the idea of Harry slaying his pain and his beast (and what a perfect demon that beast was) himself with Draco's help. The two storylines, almost fairytale and real, in this worked so well together.

I loved the use of fairy tales and peacocks. The mix of Muggle, wizarding, and Veela techniques led to some fascinating theory. The first session in which Draco had Harry visualise and name everything was so well done.

I so loved Draco being Harry's guide and protector. Harry was so strong, but part of that strength came from accepting Draco's help. Ron was brilliant as well. Such a great story.
