HAPPY H/D HOLIDAYS, MISTERWALNUT!

Author: lamerezouille
Recipient: misterwalnut
Title: To Be Back Again in the Rest of the Room
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, implied Ron/Hermione
Summary: Harry’s just defeated Voldemort, and has had enough trouble for a lifetime. All he wants to do now is to get into his four-poster bed in Gryffindor Tower and sleep. Too bad he soon finds himself unexpectedly stuck in a malfunctioning Room of Requirement... with Malfoy.
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): None that I can think of.
Epilogue compliant? Some might say it can be open to interpretation, but I’m a romantic, so I’m saying nope.
Word Count: ~16k
Author’s Notes: Dear misterwalnut, as soon as I’d read it, this is what your prompt inspired me. It was a real challenge and I went out of my comfort zone for some things, but I really hope you’ll like it with all its idiosyncrasies. Title is from Sufjan Stevens’s song “To Be Alone with You”. Deep thanks to L for her wonderfully fast, efficient and comprehensive beta, and to W for butting in with his very thoughtful comments, too. I would also like to send a lot of love to the mods, for their hard work and super-duper organising skills, without which this fest could not be what it is today. ♥

I really liked the healing and forgiving theme. The way you did the pov's was wonderful. Potter really would make a good Auror after all. I liked the climax and the ending a great deal. Very thought-provoking and great use of the Room's magic. You handled the ending delicately and left us with humour and hope. Well done! :)

Thank you very much! I'm really glad I managed to be thought-provoking, as I believe it is one of the most important things in writing, but not so easy to achieve... The ending was really important to me, with the need to convey a lot of information without dragging it on, so I'm really happy it worked for you!

Thanks for the nice comment! ♥

My heart dropped when Draco realized Harry wasn’t real (I had no idea this was coming). Thankfully, you ended this with hope. I love the last few lines…and the whole damn thing. This deserves a sequel! :)

Thank you for your nice comment, I'm really glad you liked my fic!

I'm still toying with the idea of a sequel, as it would be very interesting to see Draco's journey to win Harry back, but it's very complex in my head and I really like the ending as is, so we'll see... ;)

I would really, really like an epilogue here to be sure everything really was all right in the end.

I really enjoyed this.

January 17 2013, 13:21:45 UTC 4 months ago

Thanks a lot!

I don't think a simple epilogue would work with the structure of the fic as is, but I can assure you it'll end well for them. ;)

(and maybe someday I'll write a sequel to prove it...?)

Eeee what an interesting read!! I love it! Wonderful ♥_♥

In a totally non gay way Oh sure Harry, just keep yourself that=))

‘It’s just...’ Malfoy says finally, ‘You’ve got the weirdest pattern of chest hair I’ve ever seen, Potter. It almost looks as though your nipples are wearing glasses.’. This part made me LOL so much.

You’re convolutedly ingenious to write the story with Harry’s pov, by the end of this story I pretty much as ‘oooh’ed as the aftermath of watching ‘Sixth Sense’ and ‘The Other’. But instead of ghost, Harry is not real in here, what a twist! I suspect something amiss w/ Harry’s will didn’t do much in the ROR. And after Crabbe disappear, I started having suspicion why then??

Potter’s too taken aback to answer in any other way than perfect honesty. ‘Er, I don’t know... Boobs kind of scare me, I guess.’

Draco beams. Everything is going to be all right, after all.

The Wicked Ending. I love the hopeful tone and humor throughout the story, and the theme of forgiveness. This fic remind me a bit (at the beginning) of who_la_hoop’s Potter-Malfoy Problem with the ROR entrapment, but it has it’s own charm, obviously *LUFLES YOU*♥

Thank you so much for such a nice comment! ♥

I'm really glad my attempts at humour worked, as well as my twist-ing (?), and that you enjoyed the end, too.

I didn't remember it, but I'd read whoo-la-hoop's fic too, and I guess I'd been subconsciously influenced by it for the beginning, but I'm relieved I didn't completely rip off an idea without realising it. ;)

I really fell in love with your story. It struck so many different emotions in me. I have to admit I had to reread the part where Harry disappears a few times (in disbelief mostly). Still, I'm glad we didn't have to lose hope, and Draco didn't either when it showed that the Room just created a identical copy. Really beautiful story.

Awwwwwwwwww the ending! It's been a while since a story made me go awwwww and get all happy and squishy and teary-eyed and wrigglinginmyseat-y like this <3

PLEASE be a person I haven't read much from yet but who has written a lot already so I can stalk ALL THE STORIES once reveals are over!

I loved your characters, they really felt like Harry and Draco. Strange is, when I started reading I remembered a story I read once where Draco sees Harry pleasure himself in the Room of requirement to thoughts of Draco, doesn't realise it's a fake-Harry and then funny ensues and went "Oh, so one of them probably is not real" - and then TOTALLY forgot about that and was completely surprised by the twist..... Brain, you desert me again :(

And let me say it, again: The ending! I LOVE the ending!

Oh, I think that was Of Thwarted Plans, wasn't it? I didn't think to make that connection, either -- the twist completely surprised me! :D
And I agree -- please let this mystery author be one I haven't read anything by yet!

This fic was lovely. I love when H/D are forced together in an enclosed space and I like how this fic is set right after the war. The twist was wonderful -- especially with the use of Harry's POV. The sex was hot and confused!Harry was funny with his fear of boobs. Thanks so much for writing!

H/D forced together in a enclosed space is a favourite of line too, so I'm glad I managed to make it work for you. I'm not used to write sex scenes so I'm happy it worked too.

!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for writing this! I absolutely loved it. This was definitely not what I expected when I thought of that prompt -- NAY, IT WAS A MILLION TIMES BETTER. That twist near the end literally elicited an "OH SHIT" from me. I adore the banter, the sex, the comedy, the angst-ridden scenes, and all the little details you sprinkled throughout the story. What an amazing gift! Don't know who you are, mystery author, but thank you again for writing such a brilliant story. :) :) :)

(This is your giftee, by the way! I can't log into my LJ account for some reason, still sorting that out, so I'm leaving this comment anonymously for now)

Oh, I'm so really happy I managed to get you what you wanted despite my somewhat unusual take on it. I was mostly worried about pinning down the awkward sex the way you wished for, because sex scenes are not my forte, so I'm glad you liked it! When I realised what story I was going to write, I was also a little worried about managing to be humorous enough, so I'm delighted this worked for you too!

Your prompt was a delight to create for, so a lot of thanks to you too! ♥

:D

(Hope your lj-accessing problems are resolved!)

This fic gave me so much feels. I loved how the boys got to know and forgive each other slowly (which is really how Draco forgave himself). And realizing later on that Crabbe wasn't real gave his statements even more weight because it meant that they were all Draco's insecurities about being a coward and being a shirt-lifter. I loved room-Harry and was absolutely devastated when he disappeared :( but the ending was hopeful though but still bittersweet because I was still hung-up on how Draco must have felt.

Lastly, I thought the chest-hair bit was hilarious. :D

January 17 2013, 15:20:14 UTC 4 months ago

I'm sorry I made you sad but glad I made you laugh! I know that Crabbe is not a very popular character so I was a bit nervous about making his presence as meaningful as I wanted to, so I'm happy it worked for you!

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment. ♥

OH GOD.

This... Wow, I'm blown away. You took such a simple premise and created something amazing and beautiful. I'm in tears. Definitely my favourite fic this year so far. Ack, so emotional right now.

I loved everything about this. Everything. Your strong, polished, completely engaging writing, the spot on characterisations that truly captured them both at that age and in that moment of their lives. I loved how very much they both felt like teenage boys. The sex bits drove me crazy. Just fun and believable and in character and perfect.

And both of their journey'... ((((Draco)))) I love how in many ways this was Draco's story told from Harry's POV. And you made me love Harry the way I loved him in canon and so the bit... Well that fucking hurt . (And, funny story, I read the fic in the Pocket ap and for some reason
the fic ended right after they left the room. So for about two minutes I thought that was the actual ending and kind of freaked out a bit. But then I went to look at comments and saw there was more, so yay.
And it's still very, very sad. But then the actual ending is beautiful and hopeful and demonstrates so perfectly that Draco learned what he needed to learn and changed in the ways he needed to change.

Oh man, such beautiful writing. I'm floating and happy in a bitter-sweet way. ♥ ♥ ♥ to you writer.

Thank you again, so, so much!

I feel really humbled by such a praising comment, and I'm really proud I managed to provoke such a strong response for a fic I wrote.

I'm a bit sorry about the fic-stopping-at-the-wrong-moment thing, I guess it must have been linked to the change in section separators I used there... I'm relieved it didn't hinder your experience of the ending too much though.

So yeah, thank you again!

♥ ♥ ♥ to you too!

I am so in love and blown away by this. I am still kind of stuck on the twist right now - I did not see it coming at all and my brain is going I can't believe that happened, ♥___♥. Love your characterization, and how you used Harry's POV for so much of the story - it definitely made the twist that much more shocking. The ending was really sweet as well (: - I'm so glad I read this. <3

You took my breath away.

Hell, you took the whole air from my lungs. Jesus Christ! Oh MY GOD.

I'm speechless. You've left me completely speechless.

My heart, oh my heart. Draco.

This was masterfully done. Amazing and impressive. And funny! So funny at parts, and so effing emotional at others.

It was perfect. The way you ended it, it couldn't have been any other way, because, wow, you know what? Because Draco DID! He did forgive himself, and so he can look into the future with Hope, and there's Harry too! In his future, he can hope.

Just wow. Thank you for this.

Oof! I am breathless and tingling all over. That was masterfully done, and beautifully done, too. I am too full of emotions to put them all into words, but this is a story that will stay with me. Oh, Draco. Thank you for giving us some hope at the end, Mystery Author! I think it would have broken me otherwise. I started to get the most appalling feeling as if about to fall off a cliff, as they prepared to leave the room and we started to realise all was not well... the awful pathos of Draco wanting to hurry, and being so trusting and unawares - god, it has still broken me a little bit! I'm craving an epilogue, but you left it in just the right place, really. Am flailing a bit here, but, basically, thank you for the ride ♥

"I started to get the most appalling feeling as if about to fall off a cliff, as they prepared to leave the room and we started to realise all was not well..."

Wow! What a great fic. Since this is the last year of hols, I've been trying to restrain myself from reading the fics for a little while so I read them slowly later on, but I couldn't help myself when I saw the summary here.
And I'm super glad I read it! Everything was so well done and that plot twist was completely unexpected. Harry remembering his glasses gave me this pain in my chest that made me repeat "oh, please no" over and over in my head. But that ending! It was so hopeful and nice and clearly leading to Draco having the courage to work toward a relationship with the real Harry. One of my favorite themes any author can do in this fandom is Draco forgiving himself, and you portrayed that wonderfully. I can't wait to see who you are, Mystery Author! :)

I really liked the way that this was crafted, and I was left torn between my heart being in my throat, mourning the ephemeral Harry you created, and Draco's new-found sense of hope and self-belief. I just think it was so clever to use Harry's point of view, and it was the thing which really twisted the knife for me as a reader: the feeling of my breath catching as we finally step back and see the bigger picture was incredible. Even without the surprise though, this would have been a lovely tale which held both the slightly sinister potential of magic (the helplessness of being trapped without hope of escape in the room which appears both benevolent and somehow fightening in its mysteries) along with the personal transformation of hope and forgiveness. With the surprise it became something which will stay with me.
