Happy H/D Holidays, celandineb!
Author: accioscar
Recipient: celandineb
Title: No Happy Ending
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, Harry/Ginny, implied Draco/Astoria
Summary: If two people love each other, there can be no happy end to it. But what if one person loves two people?
Rating: NC-17 to be safe
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): non-linear, random switching PsOV and tenses (including flagrant abuse of 2nd person), brief infidelity, rimming, implied polyamory, wee bit o’ dirty talk, smidgen of het, angst, bisexual!Harry
Epilogue compliant? I’d say this was epilogue-ambiguous, but the next-gen kids do exist.
Word Count: 4,700 approx
Author's Notes: celandineb, it was a pleasure to write this for you. It was also a complete departure from anything I’ve ever written before, but I took your requests for polyamory and ‘at least one of them to be genuinely bisexual’ and this was the result. If you were to ask me to describe this story I would say, ‘It’s like scattered pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and though some may be missing or incomplete you can still see what the whole picture looks like.’ I can only hope you like what you see.
Major thanks go out to my wonderful beta! *squishes* Any remaining mistakes are mine, not theirs.

Jostling, but in a good, followable way. You manage to sucessfully pull off the multiple POV, non-linear thing without it getting too confusing, which is hard to pull off! Good job!

Found this through bryoneybrynn's journal and I am absolutely in love with it. You did Ginny justice, which I've noticed a lot of writers disregard her character as "not important."

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you liked it!

I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Ginny, but I felt in this story her "voice" needed to be heard. I'm happy you felt I did her justice.

wow, this story totally made me cry. i'm so glad you ended it the way you did - b/c deep down i'm always scared that if these characters were real, we'd have harry flitting between ginny and draco and none of them would be truly happy [uhh can you tell i'm too obsessed with fandom?! hehe].

i'm also a HUGE fan of non-linearity and shifting POVs so your story's a complete gem. it's different from the other fics and i love the way it's set up, how you show us fragmented memories but they still flow together so well. and i'm especially fond of the conversation between harry and draco that you've included in between those ~~~~~~~ lines - how clever!

love the story, definitely one of the best from the fest. off to rec it now on my journal! i will be stalking you mystery author - can't wait until the reveals to find out who you are!

WOW! Thank you so very much! Sorry it made you cry but I am glad it managed to engage you emotionally; that's always one of the hardest things when writing a fic - making the emotions feel real. So I'm glad you liked it so much.

I'm also glad you liked the lines of dialogue interspersed between the scenes; that's one of my favourite parts, too! :D

Anyway, I'm very happy that you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for reading/reviewing and reccing - 'tis much appreciated! Feel free to stalk away! ;D

Fic: No Happy Ending
The changing POVs and the structure of this fic really fascinated me. The glimpses we see of Harry and Draco’s lives were emotionally raw, and my heart really goes out to Ginny in this. I’m really glad that you’ve ended this on a hopeful note - I can definitely envision a happy ending in their future.

re: No happy ending
You did take some risks here, with the shifting pov, second-person narrator Harry even, with the non-linear structure, the exchanges of the hawthorn wand guiding the reader like a red string through the tale. The final story was worth all the risk IMHO, you created something so fragile and at the same time so intensely emotional and strong - quite similar to that precarious balance of relationships which Ginny is about to suggest in the ending, allowing Harry to love both Draco and her equally. I love the thought that Ginny, as a mother unable to chose whether she loves James or Al more, now understands how Harry can love Draco and still love her. That is an awesome, such a unique, such a hopeful thought. Thank you for this, and for this story!

Thank you so much!

You're right; I did take a lot of risks with the structure of this fic (even the title must be somewhat off-putting! ;D) but I'm so glad you felt it was worth it in the end, and that you really enjoyed the story!

Thank you so much for reading and for leaving such a lovely comment - 'tis most appreciated! ♥

Oh my God, this moved me so much I'm sitting in front of my screen and crying. Hasn't happened because of a story in a long time.

What a wonderful, wonderful piece of writing.

I don't know this slipped past me, maybe because of the warning of infidelity. But...I really loved the POV. That made this so unique and it really summed things up in a simple manner, to really get the emotions going and to really tell the story about three things going on at once: the reality, Harry's thoughts and Draco's desires.

I really liked this. Thanks for sharing!

I think they don't have the perfect ending, but it's like their own happy ending.
