Happy H/D Holidays, [name redacted]!
Author: snegurochka_lee
Recipient: [name redacted]
Title: Humbug (A Christmas Tale)
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco. (With implied Draco/other men; implied past Harry/Cho; and brief, future, imagined but not-real Harry/Charlie.)
Summary: Draco has been taking his casual relationship with Harry for granted. Visits from four key ghosts the night before Christmas just might shake up his priorities in life.
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): EWE. Discussion of the terminal illness of a child (a la Tiny Tim), but if you know Dickens, you know it will be all right.
Epilogue compliant? Not for Harry or Draco, so no kids for them, but there is implied Ron/Hermione.
Word Count: ~30,000
Author's Notes: With the greatest of apologies to Charles Dickens. The idea to write an adaptation of A Christmas Carol as H/D landed in my brain and would not be moved. Many thanks to my beta M. for not discouraging me, but also, oh God, why didn't she discourage me?! Huge thanks also to H. and L. for more beta help once the deed was done. [name redacted], you are a lovely person who did not in any way ask for this particular craziness, but you did have many marvellous things in your sign-up that I tried to incorporate here. Happy Holidays!

I am too exhausted to write the review this fic deserves. Suffice it to say that I squealed out loud for much of the time I was reading it, and Dickens would be proud even as he rolled over in his grave. Bravo, bravo, and I cannot WAIT to give it a more savory read as I pretend to work tomorrow.

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. ♥

I really enjoyed this. I had to wipe away tears periodically while reading this. But I love a fic that can make me cry while reading it and give us all the HEA.

This is definitely one that I'll be re-reading.

Thank you! That's so great to hear. :)

This was brillant! It had everything a fic could possibly have and I loved every bit of it. I adored this remake of A Christmas Carol, the HD twist gives it just the right touch! Amazing work! I see myself wanting to read this many more times in the future!

Thank you! I'm so glad the Dickens world worked for the HP world here. I was a bit nervous about that. :)

God. Fucking...jesus christ. Cheryl warned me that there was gonna be a Christmas Carol-based fic in hols this year (the only fic she let slip about) and she warned me it was brilliant but honestly it couldn't prepare me for this.

A christmas carol was my 2nd favourite christmas story as a kid (the first being the Nutcracker - ballet and handsome nutcracker princes saving you from giant rat kings on christmas eve...what 7 year old can resist?) And this fic has done it so much justice as a re-creation with HP characters...you captured everyone so bloody well, damn you!

God and the rainbow ice cream bit nearly had me bawling. Fucking hell you're brilliant. Anyone can write a story that's supposed to be a re-tellling of a classic (did you know Stephanie Meyer claimed Twiilight was a re-creation of Pride & Prejudice but with vampires and stuff? I lold for days) but its really difficult to capture the essence of the original ad still make it plausible and your own and you, my friend who I will be stalking incessantly after reveals, have done JUST THAT.

A perfect opening to the start of December/Chrismahannakwanzaka/hd_hols/etc. Hats off to you!

Absolutely brillant! I love Snape's part in it and the rainbow icecream scene was heartbreakingly good.

This was so beautiful, I have tears in my eyes, what a way to adapt a Christmas Carol, I cannot say enough except that this is a great way to start the HD_Hols =) Thank you so much for sharing, I'll be looking for you in the reveals, this was amazing. Loved it.
lee: Harry/Draco - textsnegurochka_lee on January 16th, 2012 02:15 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I definitely won the lottery in posting, getting to open the fest like this! o_O. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)

This has to be the best use of a christmas story ever. Just imagining Harry in front of the fire telling Hermione that he'd fallen in love just broke my heart. And poor, poor Teddy! GAH! I'll have to read this again tomorrow when I'm more cognizant.
lee: Harry/Draco - textsnegurochka_lee on January 16th, 2012 02:16 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much! I knew it would be hard to faithfully adapt Dickens here, so it's really just "inspired by" more than anything else. I'm so glad you liked it. :)

Dear Anonymous, your tone. Your voice, your beautiful dry witty cadence, that draws me in immediately and leaves me begging to know just where you are going. Thank you. I was grinning the whole time. Except for the sad parts. Also, when I figured out where you were going with Snape, I gasped in amazement. Really. Oh, and the wine metaphors... the food. The food details. I just about died when you mentioned champagne and gherkins. Quite possibly the best way to open the fest. And now I'm going to bed before my eyes fall out of my head.

Ohgod, this is truly amazing. I adore the detail that has gone into their clothing.

Oh, thank you! I'm not sure I thought too much about clothing, tbh, but I'm glad you liked it! Draco wearing Harry's shirt was just too soppily sentimental not to do it. ;)

Lovely and Christmassy! A perfect start to the fest. The scene with the rainbow icecream made me cry, and the last scene with Draco learning how to be a family was very affecting as well. Beautifully done, mystery author!

Thank you! I definitely lucked out in getting to start off the fest with this! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)
