Title: Burning Day: A Tale of Rebirth
Pairing(s): Draco/Harry, implied past Ginny/Harry
Summary: Looking for a bit of solitude over his winter holiday, Harry Potter rents a home in Scotland, only to end up in the middle of adventure, with ice cream in coffee, enchanted furniture, and more magical creatures than he’d ever imagined. Plus, there is a man who looks uncannily like his school rival from Hogwarts. But, he has no memory of meeting Harry in the past. Harry is determined to find out what happened to Draco Malfoy between his disappearance and finding his new identity as a charming unicorn trainer at the Scotland Unicorn Reservation for Lost Youths.

Author's Notes: Hello ile_o! May this serve as a warning that, since you asked for “UNICORNS!!!”, I gave you unicorns. Probably in all caps with a few extra exclamation points, too. There’s also plenty of plot – what began as a 10,000 story became a 20,000 monster (in the best of ways). I do hope you like it! Thanks must go out to D, A, and K, who were the best of cheer!readers. Even more thanks to taradiane with her super!beta and the other mods of HD_hols - you all are the most wonderful! Happiest of Christmases to a talented artist in our fandom!

**Mod note: This was originally posted with the file name pointing to the wrong recipient. *facepalm* The fic was correct, just the file name was wrong (as they're all named as 'for_recipient.html'). It has since been renamed, but if you had it bookmarked under that wrong name, it will no longer work for you. Just FYI. I apologize for the error!

There was so much awesomeness in this fic. I adored the unicorns and the reservation for lost unicorns...this needs to be cannon. Draco as Phoenix and with his hat and grumpy unicorn was perfect. This fic definitely made my holidays better. I read this I think on Christmas eve and couldn't stop smiling. Thanks for sharing this, mystery author <3

This was such a delightful story. It was one of the ones I stayed up late into the night reading because I just couldn't put it down. I count myself lucky because I can only imagine being in so much anguish I'd want to forget everything about my past. Surly everyone has some things they'd rather not remember, but to loose every recollection of who you were, it's so sad... And this new Draco, this carefree but not quite Draco who follows dwarf unicorns around in the middle of the night, man is he easy to fall for- Harry never had a chance. This so easily could have had an unhappy ending, I'm so glad that wasn't the case. I absolutely loved the imagination in this one. Great job.

Oh gosh, I loved so much about this story! The unicorn preserve was a very interesting story. And the thought that Draco was so lost that he felt he had to obliviate himself was so sad. Their journey throughout this story was just wonderful. And I'm so glad they had their happy ending. Great job!

Loved it. Loved the taking of the unicorns and turning cliches on their head. Brava!

Ugh. Love love love love love. LOVE. I want Gregory to be my late night companion! I just loved the way you built the world of the SURLY. Pheonix' ear piercing. His dark hair, which I have to wonder whether he died it or Fiona gave it to him. And his glamoured scars. That, for the win!

I also really want to live in that treehouse. And drift. And put ice cream in everything.

This was funny and sweet and wonderful.

How cute! I really loved the unicorns, especially Georgey and how Phoenix still had some Malfoy qualities. I also think you handled giving him his memories back quite well.

This was brilliant! I really enjoyed the parts of Draco that still seemed to come through. Very nice :D

God, I'm just catching up with all of the lovely hd-holidays stories of last year and it's March already and…

Anyway, I liked your story a lot! The cottage and the whole environment you describe sounds so comfty (except for the bed, hahaha) and I think I might prefer a sleepy little town in winter for my next holiday instead for somewhere warm and fast-paced. I was also charmed by S.U.R.L.Y. of course, especially Fiona. As for your Harry and Draco - I can "see" them very well. Often, when I picture them a few years into their jobs (particulary Harry), I see them completely overworked and in desperate need of some quality time with themselves. You captured that very well.

And Draco? God, I'm so charmed by Phoenix, you wouldn't believe it... His sourly moods towards people but true affection for Georgey and unicorns in general is very, very sweet. Georgey, btw, is such a brave, little misfit/match-maker. <3 Thank you so much for claiming this prompt and making such a wonderful story out of it!

I loved how this fic was just imbued with magic - every paragraph had charms and stained glass owls and unicorns. Harry was so lost but the lost boy Draco helped him find himself. Well done.

I loved the premise of this fic. It was so lovely to read about all the settings you described and I really loved that it was atypical!! Well written and soo cute!! :)

Such a beautiful story. Such an enjoyable foray into finding yourself. I love how the characters are in a completely different setting, almost like they were isolated from the rest of the world, yet remained completely believable as canon originals. Thanks so much for making my day!
