Author's Notes: mahaliem, I've enjoyed reading your fics quite a bit, so I hope you'll find this gift worthy. From your request, I tossed a pinch of snarky!Draco with a heaping dose of impulsive! Harry, mixed in a spoonful of Quidditch, and added a dash of teacher!fic, keeping it light on the angst. Thanks to my betas/audiencers/pagan advisor, and to the mods for their astounding patience and running this fantastic fest.

I shall demand first comment cookies. Or something.

I think this is simply a lovely story, with the characters so well thought out and brought to life. I like that Harry can talk to Molly, that he and Ginny can be adults, and that Kingsley knows what's right for Harry better than he himself does.

I find it hilarious (and so IC) that Harry would find himself named in a rite like that, and not bother to do any research beforehand! I hope the comedy version of this fic shows him struggling to get it up?!

I absolutely love the picture insert - it brings the text to life.

Merry Christmas to you!

Belated Merry Christmas to you! :) *gives you armsful of cookies, er, biscuits*

I am so glad you enjoyed this, especially since I know you're a careful and particular reader. And your beta reading was invaluable.

Since the days of the Tri-Wizard Cup,Harry had become used to being drafted for all sorts of things, so he wasn't shocked to be named for the Mid-Winter Rites. And with all the stuffy functions he'd had to attend, and the useless honors he's been nominated for, Harry was sure he was in for more of the same.

And I'm pleased you liked the picture: that was really fun to put together.

I love a good story in the morning! It makes for a great wake up! I want to know, did both Harry and Draco drink that potion???

I really liked this, liked the inclusion of the pagan rites!

Oh good, glad it worked for you! I'd always wanted to do a story based on a pagan holiday, and I really enjoyed gathering all the research for this one.

Oh, this story rocked. The spare, crisp writing style paired with the gorgeous imagery and lush atmosphere really make for a stunning story. There are about two dozen lines I could quote back -- admiring the turn of phrase or wittiness. Even the small details made me make little purring noises in my throat:

It's his own nephew Hugo Weasley, he of the dreamy long-lashed eyes and the wavy, Byronic hair, who has Scorpius Malfoy fast in his arms, pushed up against the wall, being snogged and hugged and adored. Scorpius's pale blue eyes are closed, and he lets out quiet little gasps and moans as he kisses Hugo, presses against him, buries his face in his neck and the russet darkness of his hair.

There's a sensuality and commanding tone to your prose which deeply satisfies. The later love scenes between Harry and Draco are beautifully written -- a lovely balance of emotion and bright need and physicality, all woven through with a feeling of real intimacy and quiet. Love-making as devotions, almost. Erotic as all hell.

I love your characterization of Harry, middle-aged, divorced and frozen inside. The weather is wintry and chill, just like inside his soul. I like how neatly you conveyed how he'd been going through the motions in his marriage, passionless and content, and it took Ginny stepping out on him to wake him up. And the heat of his coupling with Draco melted the chill inside -- brilliant, simmering heat contrasting perfectly with the coldness of his life before. Harry's like a half-thawed fish stick, until Draco got to him!

And the last line? Hee! I heart Luna.

Sorry to take so long to respond... I wanted to give you a response worthy of your lovely review, which is one that any author would be utterly thrilled to receive.

When I wrote Harry and Draco's love scene, I wanted to show how their intimacy progresses through each act of love, from pure lust to true partnership. By the end, Harry and Draco become so close that they are able to share themselves completely, body and soul. I'm glad that came across.

And yeah, you totally got the seasonal analogy. I've always thought that of all the characters, canon!Draco consistently gets the strongest emotional reactions out of Harry. He knows where to hit him, but he also knows where to touch him. So I figured if anything could get Harry out of his numb complacency, it would be Draco. :)

Luna's a devil, isn't she?

Thanks again for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback. ♥

this is such a beautiful story! i loved how you worked with the idea of harry and draco as hogwarts professors while their children are there, too, and the midwinter ritual was wonderful, too. especially harry's rather misguided ideas about it, haha. luna wins for slipping them a conception potion :D

I'm really glad you liked my fic! I really paid attention to your comment on my last HD_H fic, and tried not to make Harry too harsh before he figures out he's gay (or at least gay for Draco). And the sequel will have MPREG!

This was excellent! I felt so bad for Harry after his divorce, but so glad it freed him up for Draco! I loved the Yule ritual you created; confused!Harry was so perfect, and the sex was fantastic. And now I really want to read a follow-up with the mpreg!! :)

I am getting such a kick out of the fact you read my fic, and I'm utterly thrilled you liked it. And yes, there will be a follow-up: when, I can't say, but it's been started. :)

I very much enjoyed this one, especially the adult perspective moments, such as their comments about the flight out of the Room of Requirement and the various interactions with exes and Molly at the beginning. I loved the fact that there are many relationships in this story and they are all real; based on caring and friendship (and more, GO NEVILLE!) And you made Hugo Weasley attractive! You may be the first person in fandom to spot his unused potential! All wrapped up in writing that snapped with imagery and richness -- delicious!

Thank you so much for rereading and commenting and betaing! I owe you everything for that Ansel Adams joke: that's one of my favorite parts of this whole fic. ;)

Yeah, for some reason I'm obsessed with Hugo Weasley = young Hugh Grant. Go figure. I love Albus/Scorpius but I wanted to throw a little twist in here by making Hugo into a gay love interest.

I'm so flattered you're enjoying my writing; someday I'll be fit to hold a candle to you. :)

Oh, I love this! I can't believe how well you wrote my requests. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You did such a great job writing both Harry and Draco. (And I'm so very pleased that you didn't bash Ginny.) The Mid-Winter Rites was a wonderfully inventive way to get Harry and Draco together.

You are amazing and so is this story. Thank you so so much!!!

*breaths sigh of relief*

Well, my day has officially been made! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to write for you, and I'm simply overjoyed that you liked it! Thanks for mentioning it on your LJ, too.

During the course of the story, I started thinking about Harry and Ginny's marriage. Ginny doesn't nag him and pick fights because she's a bitch; it's because Harry has completely lost enthusiasm for their relationship, and she's desperate to get him to communicate with her, even if it means starting an argument. I'm glad I succeeded in getting this across. :)

Thanks again for your comment; now I feel completely fulfilled! ♥

Thanks - this was an attempt to write a slightly plottier fic than I usually do, so I'm really happy the build-up worked. :)

I thought about what profession Dudley could reasonably take that would really piss off his upwardly-mobile, status-obsessed parents, and rural farmer seemed like a good choice. It was also in harmony with the seasonal/agricultural theme of the fic. You'll see more of Farmer Dudley in the sequel, On Mid-Summer's Eve (if I ever get around to finishing it). ;)

Shacklebolt is not a warm individual, and he doesn't seem to have any special fondness for Harry. I'm glad that came across here. And I hope you enjoyed the rest of the fic.

Getting them together: the eternal challenge of H/D writing. I wanted to write a holiday-themed fic this time, and when I read about the solstice legend of the Oak King and the Holly King, I immediately thought H/D. And I had my plot. :)

Oh, this story is impossibly adorable. The bits of angst where just the enough amount and the way you brought the two of them together was very creative and amusing - Harry's little misunderstanding specially! ♥ I only wonder what the two of them will make of Luna's meddling. *grins*

Oh, thank you! Harry's a bit slow on the uptake, I think. ;)

You will see their reaction to Luna's meddling in the sequel- hopefully I'll finish it!

Farmer Dudley and his pregnant wife Prue made me smile. It always makes me happy when Dudley does all right and he and Harry keep in touch. It made me even happier that Harry's role in saving Dudley's potatoes involved bringing Draco to orgasm. ;)

Really, this fic had so many things I enjoy reading--Harry and Draco teaching together at Hogwarts, playing one-on-one Quidditch, becoming friends. I thought it was awesome that Draco beat Harry to the snitch but that he'd pushed himself to the point of physical exhaustion in order to do so. The confusion about the "foil packet" was great. Loved that it was Harry's prodding that got Draco to decide to quit smoking and that once he set his mind to do it, he was indeed successful. And I really liked Harry thinking to himself that Draco smelled better after he'd quit but not really registering what his close attention to Draco's scent might indicate.

Loved Draco's abrupt side-along Apparition with Harry and his later abrupt departure after Harry kissed him. Harry's resulting angst was great, particularly because there'd have been no cause for confusion if he'd only bothered to better prepare for the ceremony.

Finally, had to laugh at Luna and her ending line. Am very curious how Harry and Draco would end up responding to that news.

LOL, only in H/D fanfic, right? :D

I had lots of fun inserting little humorous details in here when trying to imagine how mature!Harry and Draco might react to each other, over twenty years post-epilogue, still reliving old grudges and scores. Glad you enjoyed this.

And as far as the end: stay tuned for the sequel!

Thank you so much! I enjoyed writing it, as much as I could with an impending evil deadline. :)

And thanks for reccing it, too: I think you were the very first to do so, which I can't tell you how much I appreciate. There were so many fics in this fest that by the week this was posted, many people were only reading recced fics, so I'm sure I have you to thank for those extra readers.
